SPANISH 2160 Hispanic Culture (LEC 3.0)

An interdisciplinary course that examines the culture of the Hispanic world (with an emphasis on Latin America). The presentation is in Spanish, and social science concepts and methods are stressed. Topics include: bilingualism, multiculturalism, economic development, and political stability. Prerequisite: Spanish 1180.

SPANISH 2161 Contemporary Latin America (LEC 3.0)

This course aims to engage students in the understanding of the diverse cultures of contemporary Latin America while reflecting upon key socioeconomic, political, and intellectual trends that characterized Modern and Postmodern Latin America from the beginning of the 20th century to the present. Prerequisites: Spanish 1180.

SPANISH 2170 Masterpieces Of Hispanic Literature (LEC 3.0)

A study of the major works in Spanish and Spanish American literature. Prerequisite: Spanish 1180.

SPANISH 2180 Intermediate Spanish Composition (LEC 3.0)

Theoretical and practical approach to the phonetics and phonology of Spanish from the dual perspective of the mental representation of the sound system and pronunciation within syllables, words and phrases. Practice in listening comprehension, and sound discrimination with transcription exercises. Prerequisites: Any Spanish course at the 2000 or 3000 level.

SPANISH 4330 Professional Spanish (LEC 3.0)

Through practical examples and exercises, this course helps you develop linguistic proficiency, intercultural competence, and knowledge of the Spanish-language professional world. Focus on applications in a variety of professional milieu, depending on students' specializations and areas of interest. Readings, lectures, and discussions in Spanish. Prerequisites: Any Spanish course at the 2000 level or above.

SPANISH 4350 Spanish Literature, Science, and Technology (LEC 3.0)

Discussion of unique texts, representations, and collections from distinct Spanish-speaking societies. Consideration of the social and cultural functions of science and technology through the lens of literature. Inquiry about how different societies have equated advancement and progress with challenges, solutions, and controversy. Prerequisites: Any Spanish 2000 or 3000-level course or equivalent.

SPANISH 4370 Survey Of Spanish Literature (LEC 3.0)

Survey of Spanish literature from Medieval to Modern Times, including the Renaissance, Siglo De Oro, Enlightenment, Romanticism, and the 20th century.. Prerequisite: Spanish 2170 or native ability.

SPANISH 4377 Spanish-American Novel And Short Story (LEC 3.0)

A study of the development of narrative prose in Spanish America. Prerequisite: Spanish 2170.

Requirements and Admission Criteria for Bachelor of Spanish at Missouri University of Science and Technology

Entry Requirements

Missouri S&T seeks international students who have a strong probability of succeeding at the university. Admission is selective and based on a combination of secondary school core curriculum (a set of required secondary school classes), ACT and/or SAT composite scores (if available), grade point average (GPA), and class rank percentile. (For non-ranking schools, GPA will be used to evaluate your application).
International students must fulfill the same admission requirements as domestic applicants, but standardized test scores (ACT or SAT) are not required but should be submitted if available. Meeting the minimum requirements, however, does not guarantee admission, nor does it guarantee admission to a particular program. Missouri S&T appreciates well-rounded students and evaluates each application individually.
In addition, international students must fulfill Missouri S&T's English language proficiency requirement. Minimum English proficiency test score requirements are 80 for TOEFL, 6.5 for IELTS, 58 for PTE, or 105 for Duolingo. We also accept SAT English score minimum of 500.
Missouri S&T may request that you provide an official transcript evaluation from the World Education Services (WES). If this is required, it will be visible on your application checklist after submission of your application, or an admissions representative will contact you to request it.

    - On the Personal Statement screen, you may optionally submit a statement of 500 words or less, discussing a topic you wish the admissions committee to review. This statement may include your educational goals, discussion of personal circumstances, and so on.
    - The final screen, Review, will list any errors with your application (for example, if required information is missing). Once your application is complete, choose SubmitApplication.
    - Please note that an application fee will be required once your application has been submitted.
    - We accept unofficial transcripts and test scores during the application process. Your official transcripts and ACT/SAT test scores will be required after an offer of admission is made.
2. If available, request ACT or SAT scores be sent directly to Missouri S&T. Missouri S&T’s codes are as follows: ACT – 2398; SAT – 6876.
