About Bachelor of History Teaching

The Department of History & Philosophy at Montana State offers a teacher education program option for students seeking careers in teaching secondary level history or social studies. Undergraduate students have opportunities to conduct research and work directly with faculty members on topics ranging from urban coyotes to the Butte mine, and internships at historical societies, museums and Yellowstone are an important part of the educational experience. Students who earn their degrees in the History Teaching Option may apply for state certification.

The History major at Montana State offers three additional Options Within a Major: History, Latin American & Latino Studies and Science, The Environment, Technology & Society (SETS). The History program also has five additional minors: History (Non-Teaching), History (Teaching), Japan Studies, Latin American & Latino Studies and Museum Studies.

Please note that students who are conditionally admitted will not be considered for scholarships until they are fully admitted and fulfill the English Proficiency Requirement. Students completing Interlink should contact OIP to request a review of their application during the final weeks of Interlink's classes for scholarship eligibility.
Submit your transcripts. If you are applying as a freshman, please send us your high school transcript. If you are applying as a transfer student, please submit transcripts for all post-secondary coursework completed. Please be sure to send the front and back of your transcripts. Any transcripts that are not in English must be translated by a Certified English Translator in addition to the original transcript. We will review unofficial transcripts for admissions purposes but do require submission of official transcripts prior to registering for MSU courses.
