Sponsored by the College of Humanities and Social Sciences but open to majors from all colleges at MSU, the undergraduate minor in Leadership Development Through Civic Engagement is designed to integrate with any major to train students how to engage and lead others in their chosen field. This minor involves students in their communities to facilitate their development as leaders. Students begin the minor by completing a Psychology of Leadership course (PSYC 120/294), a service learning course whereby students learn leadership theory, engage in leadership at a service learning site in the local community, and reflect upon their past and current leadership experience to learn about themselves as leaders. Students then choose one course from each of four different competency areas of leadership (Ethics/values, Diverse Perspectives, Effective Citizenship, Relational Dynamics) that relate to the career/area of leadership that they want practice. The last course in the minor is a co-operational internship in which students are able to practice and reflect upon leadership in their chosen career. The minor prepares students to engage with others to practice leadership in the field of their passion.

Please note that a resume is required for Dance, Musical Theatre, and Theatre majors, but optional for all other programs.
For most majors, a recommendation letter is not required but is strongly encouraged. Submit recommendation letter from a college counselor or teacher.
Please note that Dance, Musical Theatre, and Theatre majors require two recommendation letters. One of your recommendation letters should speak to your candidacy for your field of study.
