About Bachelor of Visual Arts

The Visual Arts Major is most suited for students seeking a diversified academic experience combined with a focus in art. Approximately one-third of the curriculum is based in studio courses and two-thirds in general education subjects, allowing students to explore their studio concentration within the context of a broad liberal arts education. 120 credits of coursework is required for the baccalaureate degree with a minimum 2.0 overall GPA, and a minimum 2.0 major GPA.

Letter of Recommendation

For most majors, a recommendation letter is not required but is strongly encouraged. Submit recommendation letter from a college counselor or teacher.

Please note that Dance, Musical Theatre, and Theatre majors require two recommendation letters. One of your recommendation letters should speak to your candidacy for your field of study.

Montclair State University considers a number of factors in reviewing admissions applications. Well-qualified candidates for admission have a 3.2 or higher cumulative high school GPA on an unweighted, 4.0 scale, a challenging course load (particularly in junior and senior years), and a variety of extracurricular activities.
Submission of SAT or ACT scores is not required, but, if you chose to submit those scores, they will be considered in the admissions process.
