Major requirements are 18 hours of core courses that cover major political science sub fields including; American government, comparative politics, international relations, political theory, public law and policy, and research methods; 15 hours of political science electives, 12 of which must be taken at the 300 level or above, and one of which must be a 400 level senior seminar, which includes a substantial research requirement. Grades of C- or better are required for courses applied towards the major. At graduation, a minimum GPA of 2.0 is required for all political science courses taken. Students who wish to focus their studies in the sub fields of international and comparative politics may elect this concentration in the Political Science Bachelor of Arts program:
International and Comparative Politics
Students in this concentration will be directed to a series of elective courses in the areas of international and comparative politics. Students in this concentration will develop skills that benefit students interested in graduate or professional school, careers in government service, civil society, issue advocacy, and businesses with international interests. Courses in this concentration will particularly develop student's knowledge of political systems outside of the United States and international political processes, and will be well positioned to understand the role of North Carolina and the United States in international political events. Major requirements are: 18 hours of core courses and 15 hours of concentration electives in comparative and international politics.
