Overview The Documentary Media program of Northwestern University promotes experimentation with hybrid techniques and the latest distribution platforms. The goal? To obtain work in telling stories that matter, in the form that best reflects the content.Program highlightsThe faculty includes award-winning filmmakers whose work has reached international audiences at festivals, in cinemas, galleries, online, and on television. Our visiting artists include documentary luminaries such as Frederick Wiseman (Titicut Follies), Joshua Oppenheimer (The Act of Killing), Steve James (Hoop Dreams), Kirsten Johnson (Cameraperson) and Raoul Peck (I Am Not Your Negro). Our equipment and facilities include top-of-the-line cameras, lighting, editing suites, and a brand-new soundstage/recording studio. In addition, students build skills from a range of electives available within our department and across the wide course offerings at Northwestern. They also enjoy career-launching connections and mentorship via one-on-ones with visiting artists, internships across the globe, and our Northwestern board of film professionals.
