Civil engineering involves the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of public works vital to society. Civil engineers plan, design, construct, operate, and maintain roadways and railways, harbors and bridges, airports and subways, water supply and treatment systems, and more.
Students who study civil engineering at Oregon State will acquire a fundamental understanding of basic sciences, social sciences, humanities, communication skills, and engineering sciences, with options for elective courses in focused areas. Junior- and senior-level courses include extensive design content and culminate in a team-based, realistic capstone design project. Additionally, students have exclusive opportunities to participate in high-quality paid internships.
Advanced coursework may include geospatial engineering, surveying, hydrology and hydraulic engineering, structural engineering, materials science, transportation engineering, and computer programming.
