An education major at Oregon State University enables you to become a proactive educator. The education program has several degree types and options.
Master of Science (M.S.)
The Master of Science (M.S.) in Education hybrid degree program prepares candidates to be secondary science and mathematics teachers. This hybrid program blends asynchronous online coursework with face-to-face classes. The in-person class meetings – taken in fall and winter terms – provide an opportunity to travel to Oregon State's Corvallis campus two Saturdays per quarter. Candidates work within a cohort of peers in science and mathematics education and are taught by faculty who specialize in and conduct educational research in science, mathematics, and equity. Upon completion of the program, candidates will have:
- A Master of Science in Education degree in one option: Science Education or Mathematics Education.
- A K-12 Oregon Teaching License with an endorsement to teach at the middle and high school levels.
- One or more subject matter endorsements for your teaching license. These include: Advanced Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Integrated Science
You can also earn an ESOL endorsement and/or Dual Language Specialization during the program. These include additional coursework and field experiences beyond the program's required number of credits.
Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.)
This is a research-oriented degree intended for doctoral candidates interested in becoming educational researchers and assume professional positions in a variety of settings, including colleges and universities, non-profit organizations, and government agencies. Candidates select from three Ph.D. options. All options are offered on-campus in Corvallis:
- Agricultural Education
- Language Equity and Educational Policy (LEEP)
- Science/Mathematics Education
