The Certiï¬cate of Graduate Study in English as a Second Language (ESL) prepares you to work with English Language Learners (ELL) in K–12, college, and adult settings - both in the US and abroad. The program is recognized by TESOL/CAEP, a national accreditation body for ESL teacher education programs in the United States. Upon successful completion, students become eligible for state certiï¬cation, which allows them to teach English as a Second Language in K-12 schools.

You can take advantage of our accelerated timeline and complete state certiï¬cation in nearly half the traditional time. By taking one additional class and by fulï¬lling the additional testing requirements, some students may also be eligible for the Bilingual/Bicultural Endorsement.

Students may also apply the credits earned from the COGS in ESL to Rowan's Master's in Educational Leadership (M.Ed.) program.

College Transcript and Copy of Original Degree – If you have completed more than one degree, all academic credentials should be submitted. Additionally, if your document is not translated to English a certified English translation is required.
Standardized English language test score – a TOEFL minimum score of 70, IELTS minimum score of 6.0, PTE minimum score of 50 or Duolingo test minimum score of 120 for traditional admissions.

Professional resume/CV
Recommendations – a minimum of 2 are required for Master’s programs, and a minimum of 3 are required for Doctoral (Ph.D.) programs.
Statement of professional objectives – Provide reasons for pursuing the program applied. Describe how you will use this program to reach your career goes, and educational goals beyond the master’s level if applicable. Students should also identify personal qualities that they want the committee to see in them, such as leadership, concerns for others, talent, etc.
