Physician Assistant - B.A./M.S. A joint B.A. or B.S./M.S. Physician Assistant is sponsored by the School of Health Professions (SHP) in collaboration with Felician College, Kean University, Montclair State University, New Jersey Institute of Technology, Ramapo College, Saint Peter's College, William Paterson University and the School of Arts and Sciences. The Physician Assistant (PA) program, in collaboration with several New Jersey colleges and universities, offers undergraduates an opportunity to enter the PA program prior to earning a bachelorâ€™s degree. These programs are designed as "3+3" programs with the first three years spent as an undergraduate and the last three years spent in graduate school in the PA program. Students may apply for entry into the program in the spring of their second undergraduate year and competitive applicants will be invited for interviews. The interview will serve to determine the applicant's emotional and intellectual maturity, ability to communicate, and the potential to achieve career satisfaction within the PA role. Acceptance will be guaranteed at the end of the third year if the applicant maintains a 3.0 GPA, is successful in the interview process, and meets all the requirements for the undergraduate degree before the beginning of the fourth year (first professional year). The professional program is based in Piscataway.

English Program Requirements

Regardless of U.S. residency status, an English proficiency examination is required of all students whose secondary schooling has been outside the U.S. in a country where English is not the principal language. Score reports must be from tests taken within the past two years and submitted directly to us from the testing service.

Please note: Students who have earned a grade of B or better in a college-level English Composition course at an accredited U.S. college (not a foreign affiliate) are exempt from the English language proficiency requirement. English courses that are designated ESL, non-native, or which require a special support component, or any courses taken outside the US, are not acceptable. Please also note that Rutgers does not accept correspondence or online courses for the language proficiency requirement.
