The Minor in Education is offered through the Graduate College of Education (GCOE) for undergraduate students to explore and to prepare for careers as professional educators at the post-baccalaureate level. Courses are designed to include the foundations of public education and roles of educators to advance social justice and equity in a variety of settings that include working with young children; students in elementary school and high school; and adults. To declare the Minor in Education, students are required to meet with an advisor in GCOE TEACH (The Educator Advising Community Hub) in Burk Hall 311. Students in the Minor in Education have the following opportunities:
- Receive ongoing advising to develop and update individualized roadmaps that meet each student's goals and Minor in Education requirements.
- Complete 45 hours of Early Fieldwork Experience in schools in Community Service Learning (CSL) courses. See TEACH advisor for information on specific CSL courses.
- Satisfy both a minor and complementary studies requirements through the 12-credit Minor in Education.
- Participate in a growing learning community of future teachers through GCOE TEACH with regular social and educational events.
- Access assistance and advising to prepare and to complete requirements for application and admission to credential programs in the GCOE.
- Enroll in up to 6 units in selected credential courses in Elementary Education as a senior, upon advising.
