Overview This Mathematics Education program at The City University of New York is designed to prepare students who have an undergraduate major in mathematics or the equivalent, but who lack the education core and master's degree needed to teach at the adolescent (grades 7-12) level. The program leads to New York State Initial Certification to teach mathematics in grades 7-12. Graduates of the program will have completed all of the education requirements for professional certification.There are five different graduate program plans:Two of these lead to a Master's Degree and New York State Certification.Two other programs are designed to prepare teacher candidates who hold an initial (or provisional) certificate to teach mathematics in New York State (or the equivalent), but who lack the masters degree necessary for professional (or permanent) certification. Finally, a fifth program is designed for individuals who hold an undergraduate degree in mathematics (or its equivalent) and a masters degree in mathematics, statistics, actuarial science or computer science.
