Overview By engaging different disciplinary approaches and through access to diverse faculty and wide expertise, students gain a broad understanding of the modern politics, history, societies, and literatures of the region while developing a special competence in a particular area of interest and honing their research skills and their ability to think critically about the region. Students are expected to acquire also an intermediate-level proficiency in a Middle Eastern language of their choice.Learning outcomesMiddle Eastern Studies students at The City University of New York are able to enrich their studies through participation in the events, programs, and resources of the Middle East & Middle Eastern American Center (MEMEAC) (see the Center’s website for more information). In addition, they are encouraged to utilize the rich resources available in New York City, from libraries, to museums, to internships with a range of charitable, educational, media, and human rights organizations. I want to find another Master Course The Program is geared toward students who plan to pursue future doctoral studies and academic careers as well as those preparing for non-academic careers in areas such as public policy, journalism, international relations, human rights, economic development, immigrant advocacy, education, and translation/interpretation. It is available for both full-time and part-time study, with the expectation that full-time students will be able to complete their requirements in four semesters. Prior study of the Middle East and/or proficiency in a Middle Eastern language is an advantage but is NOT a requirement for admission into the Program.

The MA in Middle Eastern Studies at The City University of New York offers a program of study of the modern and contemporary Middle East through a range of academic disciplines, including history, anthropology, sociology, political science, literature, art history, gender studies, and media studies.
