The Foundations for Biomedical Science PhDs Serving Indigenous Cultures certificate program is designed to provide American Indian/Alaskan Native students, and students from other underrepresented groups in science, with a rigorous research and educational program that honors Indigenous perspectives and nurtures a strong sense of well-being and belonging. This program will enhance the confidence and success of participants and their matriculation into strong biomedical PhD programs and subsequently increase the diversity of PhD-level scientists.

Entry Requirements
Applications may be submitted between October and March, and students will begin the program in June. The deadlines listed below are the recommended deadlines. Our committee will begin reviewing all applications on or after March 2nd.
Applicants must meet these requirements:
- A tribal member of an affiliated American Indian/Alaskan Native tribe or from a racial/ethnic group that is underrepresented in the sciences
- Must have a GPA of 2.75 or higher
- Must have graduated or be in the process of graduating with a baccalaureate degree in a biomedically relevant science from an accredited US college or university (no more than 36 months prior to applying to Foundations for Biomedical Science PhDs Serving Indigenous Cultures certificate program
- Must not be currently enrolled in a graduate degree program
- Must plan to enter a PhD program in a biomedical field after successful completion of the certificate program

Students are paid an annual stipend to participate in PREP@UAZ. Tuition costs and health insurance are covered by PREP@UAZ.
