About PhD in Nursing (DNP) - General

The general DNP program is a Post-Master's option that builds on experience earned in a traditional Master of Science program. Students will explore the underpinnings of practice, healthcare policy, leadership, and quality improvement. Students will gain the understanding of how to address population health issues in addition to individual health issues. The Post-Master's option is only available to students with prior certification as a nurse practitioner, nurse midwife, nurse anesthetist, clinical nurse specialist or an MS-prepared nurse with experience in informatics who wants to obtain the DNP without seeking a new practice specialty. Graduates of the program are prepared as advanced practice nurses.

Master of Science (MS) in Nursing degree

Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above
Degree awarded from a regionally accredited institution

APRN Licensure

Enrollment in the non-specialty DNP program requires APRN licensure. Admission is conditional upon the individual obtaining and maintaining the license in active and good standing.

Standardized Tests

We do not require any standardized tests for admission to the DNP Program.

Funding Opportunities

Students in the Doctor of Nursing Practice Program are eligible for university and college funding. All students are encouraged to file an updated FAFSA form each year. The College of Nursing awards internal scholarships on a rolling basis each spring to currently admitted students.

Admissions Deadlines

Applications for the MS-DNP program must be submitted by October 31st 2021 to be considered for the first admission cycle for Fall 2022 cohort.

International Conditional Admission

International applicants will not be considered for conditional admission by this program.
