Overview UTSA’s Geology ProgramAs a student in the Geology program of The University of Texas at San Antonio you can choose either the B.A. or B.S. The B.A. is for those looking to receive a quality preparatory education in the discipline and the B.S. is for those who intend to become professional geologists or plan to attend graduate school in geosciences. As both an applied and an academic discipline, a degree in Geology will prepare you for careers in petroleum, mining, water resources, environmental management, governmental agencies, engineering geology, geochemistry, geophysics and natural resources.For students with a specific interest in addressing water resource or climate issues, we also offer two areas of concentration within the Geology degree (B.A. or B.S.): (1) Hydrology and (2) Earth System and Climate. We also offer an undergraduate certificate in Geographic Information System (GIS) program. Students from any degree program in UTSA can apply for this certificate and courses taken for this certificate program can be applied to any degree program with the approval of an undergraduate advisor for the degree program.
