A knowledge of urbanism and urbanization as historic, geographic, social, and cultural processes.
An understanding of the historical development, contemporary condition, and environmental impact of US cities and metropolitan areas.
A comparative understanding of global patterns of urbanism and urbanization, stimulating global awareness and knowledge of the role of urbanization in global change.
An introduction to the principles, practices, and professional literature of urban planning, site planning, and urban design in the United States and other parts of the world.
Familiarity with some principal data sources in urban analysis and planning, such as Census data and other public and private data sources, maps, and codes.
A multidisciplinary understanding of urban related issues growing from exposure to the disciplines of Geography, Planning, and at least one cognate field.

Entry Requirements

First-year (freshmen) applicants: You must submit an official transcript from your secondary school for admissions purposes.
Transfer applicants: You must submit official transcripts of all college and/or university work, even if you don't expect to receive transfer credit. If you've completed fewer than 24 transferable college credits, you'll also need to submit an official transcript from your secondary school for admissions purposes.

If you are admitted, you will also need to submit an official final transcript from your secondary school showing your date of graduation.

Academic transcripts in languages other than English must be accompanied by an official, certified English translation.

A transcript evaluation allows the review committee to correctly compare the quality of your school, coursework and grades with all other applicants.

Although not required, we accept SpanTran or WES evaluations sent from the organization directly to the University at Albany.
