The Graduate Certificate in Hydrology and Water Resources addresses a need to provide specialized education for students new to the field and for practicing professionals in the field of hydrology and water resources. The program provides students with a working knowledge of hydrologic and water resources principles to prepare them for professional work in hydrologic design, planning, and operation of water resources systems. The program provides:
- A curriculum that explores a variety of topics in hydrology and water resources
- Fundamental knowledge and basic principles of hydrology and water resources relevant to professional practice through introduction of fluid mechanics (principles), hydraulic engineering, and water resources systems
- Fundamental knowledge in the use of experimental and research techniques applicable to hydrology and water resources
Upon completion of the program, students will be able to:
- Effectively communicate hydrologic concepts and research
- Demonstrate advanced understanding of the hydrologic cycle
- Demonstrate mastery of particular aspects of the hydrologic cycle, e.g., surface water and groundwater interaction
- Produce professional-quality reports based on reading and synthesized research
- Demonstrate ability in the practice of basic hydrological measurement techniques, i.e., gather and analyze data and prepare reports and data summaries
- Responsibly and ethically conduct work and research in the profession in diverse settings
