The Professional Graduate Certificate in Optical Sciences is designed for working professionals with bachelor's, master's or doctoral degrees who would like to supplement their practical knowledge with formal coursework. The program's rich variety of classes allows students the opportunity to explore the broad fundamentals of optical sciences or to choose courses of particular relevance to their immediate needs. In addition, students interested in the M.S. in Optical Sciences or Ph.D. in Optical Sciences may apply all units completed toward the Graduate Certificate program toward these higher degree programs.
Per Graduate College policy, the maximum amount of time for the completion of a Certificate in Optical Sciences is 4 years. Exceptions to the 4-year limit may be granted in exceptional circumstances. 15 units of enrollment in graduate level Optical Sciences courses are required for completion of the Graduate Certificate in Optical Sciences. With over 80 courses taught by faculty who are leaders in the field (see our full course list), faculty research spanning everything from medical technologies, to communications, to space exploration, and over 50% of our courses offered as Online/Distance Learning courses, our Graduate Certificate program offer students maximum flexibility in pursuing their goals:
- No set curriculum; students must complete 15 units of graduate level courses.
- Take classes part-time or full-time.
- Enroll online or in-person, with the option to switch campus from semester to semester.
