The STEM-designated Ph.D. program in Economics at UC Merced prepares students to answer real-world questions, using frontier economic methods and data sources. We emphasize rigorous quantitative training focused in applied microeconomics areas, leveraging our faculty expertise in public and labor economics, international trade, political economy and culture, the economics of innovation, and experimental economics.
Our young, research-active faculty works closely with graduate students on questions relevant to, for example, migration, education, policing, and tax policies and prepares students for careers both in academia and in industry and government.
