Social work is a profession for those with a strong desire to help improve people's lives. Social workers help people function at their best in their environment, by teaching them life skills or linking them to appropriate resources. They may help people who face a life-threatening disease or serious chronic illness or disability. They often provide social services in health-related settings that are governed by managed care organizations. Social workers also work with people in crisis, assisting families in serious domestic conflicts, sometimes involving child or spousal abuse. Other clients may be trying to cope with unemployment, inadequate housing or substance abuse.
Most social workers specialize their degree. Although some conduct research involved in planning or policy development, most prefer an area of practice in which they interact directly with people.
This program provides you with the first two years toward completion of a bachelor's degree in social work.
