About the Program
The increased prevalence of Information Technology in all sectors of our society is challenging the workforce in unique ways. Users of software applications are challenged by its increased sophistication, connectivity, vulnerability, and the serious implications of errors. The Information Technology Graduate Certificate provides solid foundations in essential Information Technology skills, which have become a must-have for any professional. The hands-on twelve-credit-hour certificate covers the foundations of software development, databases, networking, system administration, information security, and ethical values. The certificate is offered using the CECH virtual environment and can be completed in one summer.

Graduate Certificate of Information Technology for the Early IT Program
The Graduate Certificate in Information Technology is designed to provide a solid foundation in essential Information Technology skills for teachers who instruct the SoIT's first-year IT courses in our Early IT program schools. Teachers completing the certificate as part of the Early IT program complete the required twelve credit hours and an additional six credit hours. While twelve credits are required to complete the certificate, eighteen hours are required in order to be eligible to teach through the Early IT program. The twelve required one-credit hour courses cover the foundations of software development, database management, networking, system administration, and information security. The additional six one-credit hour courses present content taught in freshman level courses and provide hands-on experience developing the syllabus, creating lectures, and grading assignments. This program is offered online in competency-based education format.
Objectives
By completion of the 18 credit hours, you will be able to:
- Identify and explain the specialty areas and concepts of Information Technology
- Demonstrate proficiency in network design, analysis and security; database design and analysis; and software design and implementation
- Teach the freshman level courses of the SoIT's bachelor's degree at the high school level
- Become adjunct eligible to teach freshman-level courses for the School of Information Technology
Computer Science Endorsement
The SoIT is offering a teaching endorsement licensing option for professional educators seeking additional credentials. The IT graduate certificate program for Early IT is aligned with the State of Ohio's Computer Science Endorsement. Upon completion of the program, students may earn a Graduate Certificate in Information Technology for the Early IT Program or choose to seek the Ohio Computer Science Endorsement. Students seeking the Ohio Computer Science Endorsement must pass a state-required exam and apply to the state for the endorsement after completion of program requirements. The Computer Science Endorsement is added to a teacher's current teaching certificate or license. Therefore, students must have a valid teaching certificate or teaching license (ex., early childhood, middle childhood, adolescence to young adult, multi-age) to be eligible for the Ohio Computer Science Endorsement.
