    About

    The Master of Public Health (MPH) Program in the University of Cincinnati (UC) College of Medicine is one of the largest Programs of Public Health in the tri-state region. Our mission is to promote health, prevent disease, and protect the environment of our communities, locally and beyond, through evidence-based interdisciplinary approaches in education, research, practice, and community engagement.

    The MPH program, housed in UC Department of Environmental and Public Health Sciences with collaborations throughout the College of Medicine and Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, offers concentrations in biostatistics, epidemiology, environmental public health, global health, health education and promotion, health services management, and occupational public health. It offers robust training in the classroom and the field and gives students experience in policy and research opportunities. As a core professional degree, skills gained through the UC MPH Program are recognized as being directly applicable to public health practice and careers worldwide.

    Entry Requirements

    For our graduate programs, we welcome applications from students who hold a bachelor's degree (or higher) from a college or university accredited by a regional or general accrediting agency, and have at least a B average in undergraduate course work (or otherwise give evidence of promise that is judged satisfactory by the admitting program).

    Career

    Biostatistics

    The UC MPH Biostatistics concentration provides training in advanced statistical methods, regression models, logistical and generalized linear models, data manipulation, visualization, data mining techniques, and both clinical and observational studies design. This program prepares students for positions such as a statistical consultant, a data analyst, or a project manager in health-related organizations such as pharmaceutical companies, state and federal health care organizations, research establishments focusing on clinical trials, statistical consulting companies, and academic establishments requiring biostatistical support.

    Environmental Public Health

    The UC MPH Environmental Public Health concentration provides training in toxicology fundamentals, infectious diseases, risk assessment, policy development, advocacy, and implementation. This program prepares students for positions within public health, for positions in agencies including, but not limited to, the Environmental Protection Agency, National Institutes of Occupational Safety and Health, local health departments, state health departments, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, non-profit agencies and for-profit agencies.

    Epidemiology

    The UC MPH Epidemiology concentration provides training in the design of human population studies, clinical studies, population disease surveillance, human subject ethics, risk assessment, risk communication, basic biostatistics and data analysis. This program prepares students for positions such as project manager, research study coordinator, or technical specialist in health-related organizations that focus on population health assessment, research programs focusing on population factors related to health outcomes, or clinical trials, in local, state or federal government, academic institutions or private enterprises.

    Global Health

    The UC MPH-Global Health concentration provides training in analytical and methodological skills to effectively assess population health and disease surveillance, human subject ethics, and risk exposure. This program prepares students to critically evaluate key challenges, policies, and processes as they affect the health of populations in a global context. Students will build skills around strategic planning, professional networking, crisis management, and the development of policy initiatives under international frameworks and institutions, including diplomacy and leadership.

    Health Services Management

    The UC MPH Health Services Management concentration provides training in management, global health, leadership, informatics, quality improvement, innovation, community health development, policy development, advocacy, and overarching organizational strategy development and implementation. This program prepares students for positions within public health, healthcare and associated human services organizations.

    Occupational Public Health

    The UC MPH-Occupational Public Health concentration fulfills important requirements of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) as well as the American Board of Preventive Medicine (ABPM) as residents prepare for their board certification in Preventive Medicine with a specialty in Occupational Medicine. This program prepares students to assume leadership positions in settings that include: government agencies, universities, corporate medical departments, hospital-based occupational medicine departments, insurance companies, and ambulatory occupational medicine practices.
