The Electronic Health Records Specialist Micro-Credential will prepare students for the Certified Electronic Health Records Specialist (CEHRS) credential.
Through the completion of two courses – HCMT 1005C: Intro to Health Information, and HCMT 2015: Healthcare Applications – students will be eligible to sit for the CEHRS credential and earn credits that will ladder to the Associate of Applied Science in Health Information Systems degree program offered by the University of Cincinnati Clermont College.
Electronic health records are portable records of a patient's healthcare experience. This responsibility helps doctors see and treat patients more efficiently and may help reduce errors in medical procedures and their documentation. Electronic health records specialists focus on the electronic documentation of the patient's care and condition.
Common job activities may include:
- Auditing patient records for compliance
- Abstracting clinical information for reports
- Performing basic coding to submit reimbursement claims
- Processing Release of Information (ROI) requests for medical records
- Reviewing patient demographic and insurance information
- Discussing patient information with physicians and insurance professionals
