The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) program in Mathematical Sciences represents achievement of a broad knowledge of the various branches of mathematics and statistics, of the ability to communicate mathematics in both written and oral form, and of a demonstrated creative ability in a particular branch of mathematics or statistics.

Most of our PhD students receive full financial support (tuition remission and a Graduate Assistantship, a fellowship, or an internship), and most are supported through their entire UC career. Travel support is available for students to attend or present their work at conferences.

For our graduate programs, we welcome applications from students who hold a bachelor's degree (or higher) from a college or university accredited by a regional or general accrediting agency, and have at least a B average in undergraduate course work (or otherwise give evidence of promise that is judged satisfactory by the admitting program).
