About PhD in Mechanical Engineering

The Department of Mechanical Engineering offers graduate programs leading to the degrees of master of science in mechanical engineering (M.S.M.E.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in mechanical engineering. The graduate programs are designed to provide considerable flexibility in the selection of course work and specialization. Independent research, a requirement for the Ph.D. degree, is optional for the M.S.M.E. degree. M.S.M.E. students may choose a research-based thesis track, or a coursework-based nonthesis track. The nonthesis M.S.M.E. option may be more suitable for part-time students.

Current UD undergraduate students can be considered for admission to the 4+1 B.M.E./M.S.M.E. (i.e. bachelor of mechanical engineering plus M.S.M.E.). A dual degree in the M.S.M.E. and MBA programs is also available to graduate students.
