Our nationally accredited Bachelor of Science program in Dietetics provides you with the first step toward your career as a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist - the professional expert in the field of nutrition. Nutrition professionals are in high demand to address challenges in the health care arena to treat and prevent disease and to improve health and wellness. Dietetics majors learn how whole foods and individual nutrients impact health through coursework in nutrition education, public health nutrition, and foodservice systems management.
A strong background in science, including chemistry, biochemistry, physiology, and microbiology, is also provided in our program. After completing our Bachelor of Science degree in Dietetics, graduates must complete an accredited supervised practice program, such as a dietetic internship, to become eligible to take the registration examination for dietitians to become a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist. Optimal food and nutrient intake play a critical role in disease prevention and health maintenance, and careers in dietetics offer many opportunities related to nutrition in health care, management, sports nutrition, schools, business, and industry settings.
The majority of clinical dietetics positions are available in hospitals, clinics, health maintenance organizations, long-term care facilities, and private practice. Other career opportunities include management of food or nutrition care services in health care facilities, schools or restaurants; public health nutrition; research and/or education in universities, medical centers, and government agencies. Job opportunities in dietetics are projected to increase, and if your future plans include earning a Master's Degree, consider our dual degree Double Dawg program. You can earn a bachelor's degree in dietetics and a Master's degree in Foods and Nutrition in five years or less.
