Financial planning plays a critical role in the lives of individuals and families, helping to improve financial literacy, assist in sound financial decision-making, and achieve financial goals.
Ranked among the top programs in the United States by various financial planning sources, the Financial Planning major at UGA prepares its students for successful careers in the financial planning profession. Students study a variety of topics including credit and debt management, income tax planning, savings and investments, risk management and insurance, retirement planning, estate planning, financial counseling, and consumer decision making. All coursework meets the requirements of the Certified Financial Planner, ; upon completion of the program, students are eligible to take the CFP ® Certification Examination.

Graduates apply their knowledge and skills to help clients with different goals, values, and backgrounds as financial planners, financial counselors, and financial firm managers and owners. Other opportunities include working for retirement planning firms, consumer credit counseling services, banks, insurance companies, human resources departments, and the government. Students are also prepared for further graduate study.
