A student with academic interests in the arts and humanities for which no suitable major is offered by any single department in the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences may pursue a Bachelor of Arts degree in Interdisciplinary Studies (IDS).
The IDS major at the University of Georgia is a rigorous one that requires early planning on the student's part and coordination with the IDS program director. It is not designed for students who have taken a number of courses in various areas or cannot settle on a major, but for students who have a plan for a course of study that meets certain requirements they have set for themselves.
Students take a minimum of 24 semester hours of coursework consisting of a coherent pattern of courses in two or more disciplines, at least one of which resides within Franklin College. A Senior Thesis (3 credit hours) written on a topic of special interest to the student completes the degree.
