This major provides you with an understanding and appreciation for the management of natural resources for outdoor recreation and nature-based tourism opportunities. The curriculum is designed to help you understand the human dimension or elements of managing natural resources: significant historical developments, services and programs, recreational impacts, and the importance of sustainable development. Take courses in outdoor recreation, environmental interpretation, wilderness management, parks and ecotourism management, forestry, soils and hydrology, renewable resources, and more. Students in this program are also encouraged to pursue study-abroad opportunities to build practical real-world skills and field experience.
Career opportunities include employment with a variety of federal, state, and local public agencies, private nature resource ventures, non-profits, environmental consulting firms, and educational or regional conservation organizations.
