The Bachelors of Science in Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Georgia is an interdisciplinary program that represents all facets of drug discovery and drug development.
The curriculum begins with a strong foundation in mathematics and the basic sciences of chemistry, biology and physics. Advanced course work includes aspects of drug design, mechanisms of action, drug targeting and delivery, pharmacology, toxicology, drug development, regulatory compliance, and others. Laboratory work tests quality assurance and control of pharmaceutical products on the way to pharmaceutical manufacturing.
Students are encouraged to pursue undergraduate research in molecular pharmaceutics, molecular pharmacology, drug discovery & medicinal chemistry, and molecular toxicology to enhance their learning environment.
Graduates pursue careers in drug discovery, delivery, and analysis; cost effectiveness of medicine; and in organizations regulating drug affairs (e.g. Food and Drug Administration). The major is strong preparation for further advanced degrees.
