As a student at the University of Georgia, it is important to understand that UGA does not have a pre-law major, per se. Therefore, you cannot declare pre-law as your major, nor can you graduate from UGA with a pre-law degree. However, as an incoming student, it is useful to inform your academic advisor that you intend to go to law school because this may help your advisor direct you to courses and events that may be beneficial to someone intending to go to law school. Regardless of the major that you choose, or the school or college that you eventually become a part of, you are encouraged to continue to seek advice and assistance available through the pre-law advisor.
The mission of the Prelaw Advising Office is to provide timely and accurate advice to students considering application to colleges of law. For those students who elect to apply to law school, the office will work with students to select the most appropriate schools for application and subsequently to maximize the student's chances for admission into the college of their choice. The Pre-Law Advising Office believes that every student should have access to the best possible information which will allow them to make intelligent decisions during the application process. The College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences pre-law program provides a method for undergraduate students to prepare for law school while earning a degree in an existing field of agricultural and environmental science. In this manner, students can major in a relevant career-oriented scientific discipline while perfecting learning skills that will assist them in their advanced degree program.
