Unlike other professional schools (medicine, dentistry, optometry, etc.), a baccalaureate degree is not required to join schools of pharmacy. At the University of Georgia, 'pre-pharmacy' is not a major, but students planning to enter into a Doctor of Pharmacy program can be academically advised directly within the College of Pharmacy. Although other majors are possible, Pharmaceutical Sciences is the most popular choice for students as it provides tailored support services to help aspiring pharmacists better understand pharmaceutical careers and the professional school application process.
Students choosing the Pharmaceutical Sciences major are specially advised on a two-year (or three-year) Pre-Doctor of Pharmacy Area of Focus track, streamlining the completion of pharmacy school pre-requisite courses. The College of Pharmacy also coordinates immersive co-curricular and extra-curricular experiences to complement in-class learning.
