Romance Languages are the study of literature, language, culture, and linguistics of certain areas of the world to develop language and cultural proficiency.
The major in Romance Languages at UGA provides expertise extending from the Middle Ages through current literary and cultural trends. Students tailor their coursework to one of four specializations: 1) French or Spanish with a minor language in French or Spanish; 2) Italian or Portuguese with a minor language in French or Spanish; 3) French or Spanish with a minor language in Italian or Portuguese; or 4) Ibero-American Comparative Studies (i.e. Western nations that were formerly colonies of Spain or Portugal).
Undergraduates frequently combine language study with other majors such as education, business, journalism, medicine, and the sciences, but proficiency in two foreign languages helps find employment in the public and private sectors or as a foundation for graduate school.
