The Sociology major at the University of Georgia provides a firm foundation of the sociological perspective.
The curriculum references three central aspects: 1) the preeminence of social structures and their influence at the micro- and macro-level; 2) the role of logic and the scientific method in the acquisition of knowledge; and 3) the enduring link between individual experience and larger social processes. Students pose sociological questions and bring data to bear on them in courses that underscore the importance of race, class, gender, and culture.
Students who intend to pursue graduate studies in the social sciences, law, or business are encouraged to pursue research in the department. Other employment opportunities are available in government, business, or other areas that utilize written and oral communication skills.
