    About

The British-Irish Studies Program (BISP) at the University of Georgia offers a certificate to undergraduates who have taken 18 hours of courses that focus on British Studies.  These courses include the gateway course Introduction to British Culture and at least two courses (6 hours) outside the student's major field of study; at least one of the courses should be taken in the U.K. or Ireland.

Such a certificate is a useful credential for students who seek to apply to competitive graduate programs, in English or History in particular.  It should help students who apply for prestigious fellowships to study in the U.K. (e.g. Rhodes, Gates, and Marshall), as well as students who intend to go on for further study in U.S. institutions with British Studies programs.  Other students will find the certificate useful in preparation for professional study in international law or for careers with international firms.

Study Abroad Options: UGA at Oxford; Acting Study Abroad – London, England; Aberystwyth University Exchange – Wales; COPE foundation – Ireland; British Landscape, Authors, & Education – Cambridge University; Social Issues in Northern Ireland; Lancaster Exchange Program; Reading Exchange Program; Sussex Exchange Program; University of Nottingham Exchange Program; Leicester Exchange Program

    How to Apply

UGA supports two different application platforms for First-Year applications. Students should only submit one of these applications. We do not prefer any particular application platform, so please select the option that works best for you and your school counselor. While we are still members of the Coalition for College, we will not be accepting applications on that platform for students applying for Fall 2023.
