The Sports Media Certificate program at the University of Georgia gives students foundational knowledge of the societal impact of sports and sports media. It is the first of its kind in the Southeastern Conference.
Students learn how to cover sports events, sports news, and sports enterprise stories using text, social media, audio, video, and other visual platforms by reporting on UGA's sports programs and nearby high school sports teams. A real-world practicum supplements coursework in three areas: 1) Sports enterprise reporting and writing; 2) Sports broadcasting and production; and 3) Sports communications.
The certificate provides a distinct job-market advantage in one of the media industry's biggest growth sectors with careers available in sports writing, broadcasting, and media relations. Graduates have gone on to work at ESPN, the U.S. Olympic Committee, MLB.com, and NCAA.com.
