Research shows that quality care and education for young children is critically important, and the demand for qualified teachers of young children is great.

This program focuses on enhancing the skills and knowledge base of early childhood educators for their important work with young children. You will study teaching methods, explore child development and family relations, and learn about special education strategies. Much of your training takes place in real-world settings for infants and toddlers, preschoolers and primary-grade children.

Students who complete this program are eligible for the Idaho Early Childhood Education/Early Childhood Special Education (ECE/ECSE) blended teacher certification.

Requirements and Admission Criteria for Bachelor of Early Childhood Education at University of Idaho

Entry Requirements

If you are a freshman or first-year student:

Undergraduate applicants who have no previous work at the post-secondary level must have at least a 2.5 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) from a secondary school. Students must also meet the criteria for admission to university-level study in their home country.

If you are a transfer student:

Undergraduate applicants who have attended a post-secondary institution and have completed at least 14 transferable semester credits at an accredited institution must present a minimum grade point average of 2.0 for all post-secondary work. For admission into the College of Engineering, transfer students must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.8. Other departments may have additional requirements. Students who have completed fewer than 14 transferable semester credits (post-secondary) must meet the freshman or first-year student requirements in addition to the transfer student requirements.
