About Bachelor of Forestry

Understanding and managing our multifaceted forests.

Forests cover one-third of the nation's land area and 40 percent of Idaho's land area. With such vast natural resources comes the need to manage the land responsibly.

In this program, you will build the science-based knowledge for sound management of forest resources. You will study topics such as forest management and operations, disease and pest control, forest hydrology and ecology, geographic information systems, wildland fires, forest inventory, and more.

As a graduate of this Society of American Foresters accredited program, you will be prepared to balance the many demands placed on forests: from sustainable timber production and biomass for forest products, to recreation and wildlife habitat conservation, providing clean water and other forest ecosystem services.

Requirements and Admission Criteria for Bachelor of Forestry at University of Idaho

Entry Requirements

If you are a freshman or first-year student:

Undergraduate applicants who have no previous work at the post-secondary level must have at least a 2.5 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) from a secondary school. Students must also meet the criteria for admission to university-level study in their home country.

If you are a transfer student:

Undergraduate applicants who have attended a post-secondary institution and have completed at least 14 transferable semester credits at an accredited institution must present a minimum grade point average of 2.0 for all post-secondary work. For admission into the College of Engineering, transfer students must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.8. Other departments may have additional requirements. Students who have completed fewer than 14 transferable semester credits (post-secondary) must meet the freshman or first-year student requirements in addition to the transfer student requirements.
