The pre-med focus is an advising program to help students become well prepared for application to medical school. Students receive assistance in selecting and sequencing appropriate courses, evaluating their career goals and preparation, and connecting with resources both on and off campus, including current medical students in the WWAMI program on the Moscow campus.

Medical school admission requirements vary between programs, but typical prerequisite courses will include general biology, general chemistry, organic chemistry, biochemistry, physics, calculus, statistics, psychology, and sociology. Common pre-medical majors include biology, medical sciences, chemistry, biochemistry, microbiology, exercise science, food science, psychology and nutrition. A career as a physician requires an undergraduate degree, four years of medical school, and a three- to seven-year residency.

Entry Requirements

If you are a freshman or first-year student:

Undergraduate applicants who have no previous work at the post-secondary level must have at least a 2.5 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) from a secondary school. Students must also meet the criteria for admission to university-level study in their home country.

If you are a transfer student:

Undergraduate applicants who have attended a post-secondary institution and have completed at least 14 transferable semester credits at an accredited institution must present a minimum grade point average of 2.0 for all post-secondary work. For admission into the College of Engineering, transfer students must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.8. Other departments may have additional requirements. Students who have completed fewer than 14 transferable semester credits (post-secondary) must meet the freshman or first-year student requirements in addition to the transfer student requirements.
