Overview Program OverviewStudents do not need to have majored in Geography or Environmental Science in order to apply to our Geography and Environmental Systems (GES) program at University of Maryland Baltimore County. The admissions committee will take previous background into account when recommending any courses that may need to be taken either before starting the program or in the first year of the program.Applications must meet the minimum standards for admission to the University of Maryland Graduate School, Baltimore. Details of the admissions process can found at the UMBC Graduate School.

Students wishing to enter the Ph.D. or the M.S. programs in Geography and Environmental Systems (GES) at University of Maryland Baltimore County are encouraged to identify one or two prospective faculty mentors.

1The UMBC Graduate School will accept official WES ICAP Course-by-Course evaluations as fulfillment of the requirement for official transcripts in the admissions process. The WES evaluation is optional. The Graduate School needs to receive either an official WES evaluation or official transcripts. The WES ICAP Course-by-Course evaluation includes copies of the official transcripts and degree certificates that have been verified by WES, and it includes a course-by-course evaluation. The evaluation must be sent directly from WES to the UMBC Graduate School in order to be considered official.
