Overview Program OverviewThe department offers an Accelerated Program for students who wish to combine their undergraduate studies with a master’s degree and thesis. Graduate certificates in Mechatronics and in Computational Thermal/Fluid Dynamics consist of a sequence of four graduate courses in a specific technical area. Credits from a graduate certificate apply to the M.S. degree program. The Mechanical Engineering program at University of Maryland Baltimore County focuses on providing students advanced training in the fundamental sciences and technology of Mechanical Engineering to enable them to pursue careers in applied research and development. An M.S. degree will enable students to pursue careers in government and industrial laboratories, advanced technology firms, or to teach in community colleges. The M.S. program is also a useful springboard toward the Ph.D. program. The M.S. program has a thesis and a non-thesis option. All full-time students are encouraged to take the thesis option. An accelerated BS/MS program is available to exceptional students.

1The UMBC Graduate School will accept official WES ICAP Course-by-Course evaluations as fulfillment of the requirement for official transcripts in the admissions process. The WES evaluation is optional. The Graduate School needs to receive either an official WES evaluation or official transcripts. The WES ICAP Course-by-Course evaluation includes copies of the official transcripts and degree certificates that have been verified by WES, and it includes a course-by-course evaluation. The evaluation must be sent directly from WES to the UMBC Graduate School in order to be considered official.
