This program will prepare you to teach chemistry in public and private high schools.

Students will graduate from this program with a B.A. in Chemistry as well as Secondary (9-12) Science Teacher Licensure that is accredited by the state, regional, and national accrediting agencies.

Besides the tradition of excellence in classroom teaching, the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry provides student-centered research opportunities in all sub-disciplines of chemistry.

With the joint effort with the Watson College of Education, the chemistry faculty thrives to help students become knowledgeable and proficient chemistry educators.

Applied Learning Opportunities

Undergraduate students receive various immersive research experiences such as DIS and Honor thesis research.

Many chemistry majors secure internships with international and local chemical, environmental, pharmaceutical or biotechnology companies.

Includes 61-Hour Chemistry Major; 21 Collateral Hours

Demonstrate knowledge of concepts in chemistry

Apply knowledge in chemistry to real-world problems and engage in rigorous scientific inquiry and communicate ideas in writing

Demonstrate the ability to locate, evaluate, and effectively use scientific information from accepted sources

Train in proper laboratory skills and safety techniques, conduct chemistry experiments, use various analytical instruments, collect and analyze data
