About Master of Occupational Therapy

The Department of Occupational Therapy offers the Master of Science (MS) in Occupational Therapy program, an advanced practice program for occupational therapists with a bachelors degree in occupational therapy. The program is intended for occupational therapists, educated in the United States or internationally, who are seeking advanced knowledge and skills.

The Doctor of Occupational Therapy (OTD) program prepares students to become occupational therapists. The program is designed to develop the next generation of doctorally trained occupational therapists who will be able to rigorously implement evidence-based practice, understand care delivery models, and meet the future occupational needs of society. Students will develop the skills needed to assume leadership roles within health, education, and wellness systems. The OTD curriculum includes course content and learning activities that prepare students beyond the generalist level of an occupational therapist in practice skills, research skills, administration, professional development, leadership, advocacy and theory.

Our post-professional Doctor of Clinical Science (CScD) in Occupational Therapy program, delivered 100% online through Pitts School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences (SHRS), empowers occupational therapists all over the world to develop advanced leadership skills, implement evidence into practice and transform both clients lives and the profession of occupational therapy. Our highly personalized curriculum ensures that coursework is tailored to each students professional interests and goals. The online CScD in Occupational Therapy program is designed to prepare eligible or already credentialed or licensed individuals to practice clinically with competencies above and beyond those expected of entry-level professionals. These students develop advanced skills to identify and implement evidence in clinical practice, as well as professional communication, leadership and clinical teaching skills. This program provides a foundation for moving into leadership positions in clinical, community and educational settings. Students enrolled in the CScD in Occupational Therapy degree program will also receive an Advanced Practice Certificate in Implementation of Evidence in Clinical Practice.

Entry Requirements

The minimum requirement for admission to a graduate program is the completion of a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in the United States or the completion of education that the University of Pittsburgh deems comparable to a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in the United States.

Applicants are required to submit official original academic credentials. Official original academic credentials that are issued in a language other than English must be accompanied by a certified English translation. In cases where the transcript (grade report, academic record, examination results, mark sheet) does not attest to the awarding of a degree or an academic qualification, a certified copy of the original certificate or diploma awarding the degree or qualification must also be submitted. Certificates or diplomas that are issued in a language other than English must be accompanied by a certified English translation.

Verification of English Language Proficiency for undergraduate applicants is determined by the Office of Admission and Financial Aid at the University of Pittsburgh. Verification is required unless the following apply: The applicant is a citizen of a country whose official language is English. Self-Reported Academic Record (SRAR). We encourage you to complete the SRAR rather than sending a transcript to improve application processing time. Please note that we will compare your SRAR to your official high school transcript if you enroll at Pitt. Accuracy in completing the SRAR is very important. Discrepancies and misrepresentations could result in the Admissions Committee revoking your admissions decision.
Original or certified, official secondary school records from grades 9-11 (transcripts, marksheets, certificates, examination results, etc.) and any national/state examination results required in your country. You will also need to send literal translations of your records if they are not in English. If your secondary record only includes grades 10-12, please submit the third year of your middle school transcript. Note: Students may be required to complete a transcript evaluation.

We’re a test-friendly institution, which means that we will take your highest ACT composite score and your highest SAT superscore. We don’t require the SAT Essay or ACT Writing scores.
