MEd in TESOL, Literacy and Culture A Rewarding Career Path For Globally Minded Educators Change the lives of adult students, their families, and their communities through teaching English as a second language. The Department of Learning and Teaching offers two options to assist professionals in the field of education to develop a scholarly and practical approach to literacy and second language instruction. The Master of Education (MEd) in TESOL, Literacy and Culture program strives to prepare reflective practitioners who can successfully engage with adult students from diverse cultural, linguistic, and socioeconomic backgrounds to ensure their academic success. Graduates earn both an MEd and a TESOL certificate. Certificate requirements are met within the first year of the degree program. Throughout your program, you will focus on culture, linguistics, second language acquisition methods, and the methodology of teaching English. You will also build an understanding of the complexities of working with culturally and linguistically diverse communities within the US and around the world. Our TESOL Graduates emerge prepared to work in settings like community colleges, universities, adult education centers, language academies, and international schools. With over 150 hours of observation, teaching experiences, research practice, you will carry your classroom experience into the real world.

Entry Requirements

The Franciscan School of Theology is authorized under federal law to enroll non-immigrant students. In addition to the application elements already mentioned, international applicants must: Demonstrate their ability to speak, read, and write English by a TOEFL score. FST’s TOEFL number is 5736. (Exception may be made for students who earned their earlier degree at an English-speaking institution.) Supply official English translations of transcripts written in a language other than English. Submit a financial declaration attesting to the availability of funds ($US) sufficient to cover personal and academic expenses for the duration of their study.
