Why Study Geography?

Geography is the study of processes that shape human and physical environments on Earth. Geographical research on global change is contributing to our understanding of some of the most pressing challenges that face our planet today.

The Arthell Kelley Scholarship provides yearly awards to undergraduate and graduate students in Geography who have demonstrated excellence in their courses and extra-curricular activities.

Geography students can specialize in geographic information systems, sustainable development, physical geography, biogeography, and human-environment processes. Students who major in geography are well prepared for a wide range of professional careers. Many of our alumni have gone on to forge successful careers in geographic information sciences, environmental analysis, and urban planning.

Requirements and Admission Criteria for Bachelor of Geography at University of Southern Mississippi

Entry Requirements

Strong Freshman applicants will present a 2.5 minimum GPA in core academic subjects. It is understood that most foreign education systems do not follow the same core curriculum as taught in U.S. high schools. Therefore, each applicant will be evaluated on criteria particular to the educational system of the country in which they completed their studies. However, it is expected that a college preparatory curriculum include courses in English, Math, Science, and Social Science.
