Why Study History?

History teaches students to understand the origins and transformations of diverse peoples and societies. It allows us to compare differences among societies and recognize what makes us all human. Students prepare to interpret the complexities of our interconnected planet and develop practical skills in critical analysis, solid writing, research methods, oral presentation and the use of evidence.

History course offerings are broad, but the curriculum is designed so that students may specialize in specific regions and time periods. There are opportunities to explore and develop skills in:

Requirements and Admission Criteria for Bachelor of History at University of Southern Mississippi

Entry Requirements

Strong Freshman applicants will present a 2.5 minimum GPA in core academic subjects. It is understood that most foreign education systems do not follow the same core curriculum as taught in U.S. high schools. Therefore, each applicant will be evaluated on criteria particular to the educational system of the country in which they completed their studies. However, it is expected that a college preparatory curriculum include courses in English, Math, Science, and Social Science.
