    About

    Earn Your Degree in Finance

Finance is the science of money management, concerning the investment of assets over time under conditions of risk or uncertainty. Our Finance program is dedicated to setting up graduates for success in finance positions or entry-level business positions. Our goal is that each of our students, upon graduation, possess the educational background necessary for advancement in public, corporate, and governmental organizations.

Students are encouraged to consider studying abroad! In fact, many business students are awarded study abroad scholarships to assist with the expense of attending study abroad programs. Southern Miss Business faculty lead three programs: British Studies, Asian Studies, and Italian Studies.

The College of Business and Economic Development is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB).

The finance curriculum provides foundations in theory, analytical tools and problem-solving methods fundamental to a broad array of applications that are vital to financial and non-financial firms alike. Students will have the opportunity to take courses in financial management, money and capital markets, investments, bank management, real estate valuation, and working capital management. While the curriculum focuses on finance knowledge, it also teaches the basic professional skills that every business person needs.

There are numerous internship opportunities our students have participated in, providing them with experience in and exposure to a career in finance. Recent students have completed internships with businesses such as Trustmark Bank, Enterprise Rent-A-Car, and Sanderson Farms.

Students can get additional hands-on experience by pursuing a certification using one of the Bloomberg terminals in the financial services lab
