About Master of Engineering Management

The Master of Science in Engineering Management was developed to meet the need for professional leaders in engineering and technical settings, with a focus on manufacturing and service operations. It "bridges the gap" between engineering and management and focuses on leadership and the skills necessary to manage people, money and projects. The program is anchored in the Engineering Management Body of Knowledge from the American Society for Engineering Management.

Its objectives are:

To develop leadership capabilities and significant managerial skills to augment the student's strong technical background.
To enhance the capabilities to deal with resources available for managing people, money, and projects.
To develop advanced analytical and managerial skills and to acquire knowledge in related fields.
To develop the ability to integrate technical, managerial and systems skills to improve the performance of the enterprise.
To prepare students for further study in post-master's and doctoral programs as their interest and professional growth require.

The scope of the graduate program includes studies in the areas of engineering, technical resource management, quality, project management, and organizational leadership. Program electives allow the student to select courses in advanced technical areas, management, and communication. The program requires completion of a minimum of 30 semester hours beyond the entry-level prerequisites in the student's program.

Admission Requirements

Possess a baccalaureate degree with a major in a technical field, such as engineering, technology, mathematics, computer science, or the physical sciences. For other majors, see item 2.
Show evidence of completion of math through the first calculus course with a minimum overall grade point average of 2.5 in math courses.
Undergraduate courses are required in calculus and statistics with experience in computer programming. Prerequisite courses may be taken at WMU to fulfill these requirements, if necessary.

Proof of sufficient funds for the first academic year of study at WMU according to estimated cost of attendance. Proof of sufficient funds is a bank statement in your own name for cost of attendance. If the bank statement is not in your own name, then additionally provide a letter signed by your financial sponsor indicating that they will pay your cost of attendance.

Hand-carried transcripts will be accepted if in a sealed envelope from the institution.
