Students pursuing a degree in Robotics Engineering at WPI do much more than actually study robotsthey build them, interact with them, explore their design and function, and push them to their limits. With the first-of-its-kind robotics engineering degree in the nation (and one of the first to offer graduate degrees in robotics engineering), our department is built with aspiring robotics professionals in mind. Only through the immersive, hands-on robotics courses and experiences that make up WPI's robotics engineering degree will you find this distinct approach that combines expert knowledge with real-world applications. Simply put, if you're looking for a STEM and robotics college that offers a robust, hands-on approach to designing and understanding robots, you've come to the right place. If you're interested in a degree in robotics engineering and if you're also already a student involved in FIRST, you're in good companyand you may also be eligible to apply for one or more WPI scholarships. WPI faculty and students are also the ones who designed and wrote WPILib, the FRC Control System software used by all of the nearly 1,700 FIRST teams.

As you pursue a robotics engineering degree at WPI, you won't just learn about robots in a classroom. You'll design robots, control their behavior, and understand their use as you study the core disciplines of computer science, electrical and computer engineering, and mechanical engineering. Complementary robotics courses in social implications and entrepreneurship provide the broad education necessary to understand the impact of engineering solutions in a global, economic, environmental, and societal context as you work toward your major in robotics. Through projects, you'll learn how to put your classroom knowledge to work. By the time you graduate with a robotics engineering degree, you will have been constructing and operating robots for years, and you'll understand how to apply that experience to solve real-world problems.

Project-based learning is at the heart of a WPI education. We know hands-on project work helps students connect what they learn in class to what they will do in the real world. As a robotics engineering major, you'll work closely with faculty and peers on teams to meet the challenges of solving authentic real-world problems or to explore the ethical implications of robots in a human society, from surgical robots to humanoid robots used for disaster response.

WPI Undergraduate Admissions will also consider Initialview or Vericant interviews if submitted. These interviews are optional and serve as a supplement to one of the exams mentioned above, but alone they do not satisfy our English proficiency requirement.

No matter which type of student you are, be sure to use an email address that you check frequently when filling out your application. Keep in mind that many high schools block external emails, so we recommend using your personal email address if you have one. This email will be the main method of contact that WPI uses to reach you throughout the application process.

Step #2: Request Required Materials

Request your required high school transcripts and letters of recommendation while completing your Common Application. WPI is a test-blind institution, meaning SAT and ACT scores are not part of the WPI application. We do require:

School counselor letter of recommendation
Teacher letter of recommendation
Early Decision applicants are required to submit the Early Decision Agreement
